Senior Biology

Senior Biology at Cambridge High covers a wide range of both practical and theoretical biology across both Year 12 and 13.

In Year 12, we focus in on cellular processes and the genetic basis of inheritance and expression. We carry out a biological practical investigation and go on an ecological field trip to Maungatautari Mainland Island Reserve.

In Year 13, students focus more on the biological big picture of both plant and animal species interactions and on evolution in New Zealand and in humans around the world. Students get a chance to perfect their practical biological skills with the Level 3 investigation and explore how humans maintain a stable body environment.

The senior Biology courses are both designed to support students entry into pathways such as health sciences, biological and environmental sciences and give plenty of New Zealand contexts for those exploring these areas for personal interest.
