TRADES ACADEMIES AT CAMBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL

Wintec Trades Academy

The Waikato Trades Academy (WTA) is funded by the New Zealand Government to provide secondary students with the opportunity to study at both school and Wintec. WTA gives students a head start; gaining specific and practical experience and skills in an industry-based setting, and the opportunity to move directly into a job, apprenticeship, or further study, on completion of secondary school.

As a WTA student, you can enrol in one of the programmes that WTA provides. This is an addition to your current school subject choice. You will be travelling to the Wintec campuses for practical, hands-on learning, typically one day a week.

WTA programmes are fee-free.

PRIMARY ITO AGRICULTURE ACADEMY

Many school leavers rely on vocational education but have no clear pathway. The Primary ITO Trades Academy has been designed to help correct this and now has 500 funded students in 34 schools.

The programme works alongside NCEA Year 11 or 12 students. It blends study with practical on-job learning, such as fencing, milking, drenching, docking, health and safety…

The Trades Academy includes one day per week. As the Academy is Government funded there are limited spaces available.
