Year 13 Camp Update

Dear Parents / Caregivers and Students in Year 13
Teenaa koutou ki a koutou,

Firstly, welcome back to you all and I hope that the first few days have gone well. It has been great seeing you fill up CHS again and talking with some of you about what your plans for the year. I want to thank the huge numbers of Year 13 students that had a big presence in this opening week. I appreciate the welcome you have provided our Year 9s as they get started at CHS and we have got 2022 off to great start.

Secondly, we have needed to cancel the Year 13 camp due to the restrictions of the red-light settings and a need for us to be cautious with many of the events we run at school. The camp included activities that would have taken students all over Rotorua, potentially putting our students at risk. At this time we have prioritised student wellbeing and made the decision to cancel. We apologise for the disappointment this brings to our students. It was a hard decision, but their health and wellbeing is at the forefront of our priorities. The camp is a real highlight for all of us as it is a great way to get to know the Year 13s and for them gel together as a year level. We are not defeated yet though and are exploring other windows later in our calendar where we can run a similar event for our Year 13s but, as we have become accustomed to over the last few years, we will have to see how this current outbreak plays out.

Kind regards,

Nga mihi,

Greg Thornton
