Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The Cambridge High School Board is delighted to announce the permanent appointment of Mr Paul McAvoy as Principal of Cambridge High School.
Mr McAvoy has been Acting Principal since the beginning of Term Two, providing stability and certainty while the permanent appointment process was undertaken.
The Board received a number of high calibre applications for the Principalship and Mr McAvoy was selected following a rigorous process of wide-ranging consultation and consideration.
Mr McAvoy brings extensive educational and leadership experience to the role. Prior to serving as Deputy Principal at Cambridge High School, he was Associate Principal at OneSchool Global and Headmaster of the prestigious Northwood School in South Africa. He has an Honours degree in Education Management, a Graduate Diploma in Education, and has spent three years working with the Education Review Office as a Leadership Partner evaluating schools across the motu.
He has a wide variety of interests, having been involved in many sporting and cultural activities in schools. He has coached and managed chess at an international level since 1995 and coaches and referees rugby.
Mr McAvoy is excited about the prospect of leading Cambridge High School and says “In my four and a half years at CHS, I have been privileged to work alongside so many fantastic people. Now, having been given the honour of leading this fine school, I cannot wait to take CHS to the next level. With outstanding teachers and talented students, the future is bright!”
We look forward to seeing Mr McAvoy build on Cambridge High School’s success as we continue to empower every student to grow in an inspiring and supportive learning environment.
