Basketball is one of New Zealand’s fastest‑growing sports and is currently the country’s number‑one sport by participation. At CHS, we offer both competitive and social basketball teams for boys and girls across all junior and senior levels within the Waikato Secondary Schools Sports Competition.

If you wish to trial for our Junior or Senior Premier Teams, please indicate this on the registration form. Trials will take place in March to select these teams.

If you prefer to enjoy the social side of basketball, you are welcome to list any friends you would like to play with on the registration form; otherwise, we will place you in a team. Please note that social teams must have a parent/adult manager. Having a coach is optional, and CHS does not appoint coaches to social teams.

We warmly welcome the involvement of our parents and whaanau at all levels of the game. Whether as a coach, team manager, score bench helper, or referee, your support makes a huge difference, please let us know how you can help!

Practice Times: Practice days and times vary for each team and coach and may be scheduled either early in the morning or after school. Social teams also have the option to train or not, depending on their preference.

Games: Basketball is played during Terms 2 and 3, and all of our teams compete in the Waikato Secondary Schools Basketball League. Most teams are fortunate to play in the CHS gym on Tuesday evenings. However, our Premier teams and all girls’ teams are required to travel, as their games are scheduled in Hamilton or across the wider Waikato region on various nights throughout the week.

Trials: Trial dates are to be confirmed but will take place in March.

Fees: The $170.00 season fee per student applies to all teams except the Junior and Senior Premier teams. To register for Basketball, you must pay the base fee of $170. Students selected for teams with a higher fee will be charged the remaining balance once team selections are confirmed.

Uniform: Playing uniform is supplied by the school.

Gear Required: Sneakers / basketball shoes and a mouthguard.

Please note that, in line with School Sport NZ’s ‘Balance is Better’ guidelines, summer sport commitments should remain the priority during Term 1. We offer multiple trial dates to provide flexibility, and students are not required to attend all trials if they have important summer sport commitments. If a student has a scheduling clash, we encourage them to contact sport@camhigh.school.nz so we can help them navigate this.
