Year 8 Entrance Scholarships

Scholarships are offered in recognition of outstanding ability and potential.   A range of scholarships are available as set out below and intended for those students who are currently working/performing at an outstanding level in comparison to their peers.  

Application forms are listed below.

The Academic Entrance Scholarship form must be completed and returned to school no later than 4.00pm Wednesday, October 30th, 2025 in order to undertake the entrance scholarship examinations.

Applications for the remaining scholarships must be completed and returned to school no later than 4.00pm Thursday, November 13th, 2025

The Academic Scholarship exams will be sat at Cambridge High School on Wednesday 12th November 2025 starting at 9.00am.   These exams will be in addition to the Entrance Exams sat by all students coming to Cambridge High School.   Students are required to complete the appropriate forms below and return them to the School by the date indicated, in order to undertake the entrance scholarship examinations.

1.   CAMBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

Entrance Scholarships up to the value of $250 may be awarded on the basis of excellence in:

  • ENGLISH

  • MATHEMATICS     

  • SCIENCE            

  • SOCIAL STUDIES    

These scholarships will be determined by the examination team and the Principal 

  • SPORT                       

This scholarships will be awarded to the candidate (or candidates) who can demonstrate active participation in a number of Sports or Sporting Activities.

  • THE ARTS

This scholarships will be awarded to the candidates who can demonstrate active participation in recreational pursuits in the Arts (Art, Music, Drama, Dance etc.) to a high level of competence.

  • TE AO MĀORI  

Students who have made significant contributions to Te Ao Maori over the last two years. It could be success with te reo, kapa haka, kaikorero/kaikaranga, or a māori leadership role at school.

These pursuits (Sports, Arts, Te Ao Māori) need to be indicated and supported with  documentation on separate application forms and will be considered by the Principal, Mr Greg Thornton. Applications must be in by 4.00pm Thursday, November 13th.             

  • PRINCIPAL'S       

This scholarship is awarded at the Principal's discretion in recognition of excellence in any of the above or combination of the above.

 

2.   THE  “Mr JACK SOUTH”  SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is in recognition of the service to Cambridge High School by the late Mr Jack South.   Mr South was the founding Principal of Cambridge High School on its new site in 1953. Mr South was CHS Principal from 1953-1963.

This is an Entrance Scholarship to Year 9 at Cambridge High School to the value of $500.

The scholarship is awarded annually by the Principal to a student based on scholastic merit, but also may include any combination of the following:   examination results, the applicant's previous record of industry, and character while at school (from their current school report).

 

NOTES IN RELATION TO SCHOLARSHIPS

Note1:  Only students whose applications have been accepted for Cambridge High School are eligible to apply to sit the scholarship examinations.

 

Note 2:   Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Attend the End-of-Year Junior Prizegiving, in order to be acknowledged by the School;

  • Be available for publicity purposes if required, and;

  • Make an on-going contribution to the school in an area associated with the scholarship.
