Head of Languages faculty

Our vision is to provide an inspiring, holistic learning experience so students leave school with choices, confidence and a sense of purpose. We are able to deliver this through a rich variety of learning programmes, high-quality staff and extensive extra-curricular offerings. 

What does the role involve?
The aim of this role is to share your passion for languages with our students, ensuring the teaching of Languages across the school is at the highest level.  We deliver the languages of Te Reo Maaori, French and Japanese from Year 9 to 13 at CHS. The outgoing HoF has done an outstanding job of building a love of languages through an engaging curriculum and range of extra-curriculum offerings, including school trips and exchanges.

The position commences in Term 1 2026.

The terms and conditions, including base salary, for this position is set by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement.  The base salary for trained and registered teachers will range from $61,329 to $103,086, depending on applicant’s qualifications and experience.  Individuals’ actual base salary will be established by a salary assessment once a role is confirmed.

Commerce Teacher

We are seeking a passionate teacher of Commerce with strengths in any combination of Business Studies, Economics, Financial Literacy, and Junior Commerce.

Assistant head of faculty and teacher in charge of Y12

An opportunity exists to join the leadership team in our English faculty.  The current responsibility is a co-Assistant Head of Faculty role alongside management of the Y12 programme.  There may be some flexibility for negotiation around the Y12 responsibility either upon original appointment or as things change within the faculty in future years.

The faculty is very collegial, collaborative, supportive, and forward-thinking in its approach. For the last few years, we have been on a culturally responsive journey. Currently, we are focusing on cementing changes into our current practice to reinforce this, alongside introducing the new curriculum.  Having current NCEA knowledge and experience of Level 2 and 3 is essential.

Staff wellbeing and student-centred approaches are two driving forces of this faculty, and the ideal candidate will place strong emphasis on this is both their classroom practice and leadership.  The successful applicant will enjoy having fun at work both in the classroom and in the faculty spaces.

Geography Teacher

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Social Sciences faculty. Ideally you are ready to deliver Geography at Level 1, 2 and 3. The department achieves excellent results and puts a strong emphasis on field trips as a way of strengthening learning. These consist of Maungatautari Ecological Island, Mount Maunganui, Waihi Beach in Level 3 and overseas trips.  The subject delivers regular NCEA Scholarship success and sits amongst other strong social science subjects of History, Classical Studies, Psychology and Tourism. Within the faculty you will experience a supportive, friendly and success driven atmosphere where individuality is encouraged and growth as an educational leader encouraged.

There is some flexibility in the faculty and so we are interested in all candidates with training in Social Sciences. We are prioritising getting the right person in the role with the skills, energy and subject knowledge to maintain excellent student outcomes. We will be able to arrange the teaching load around the expertise of the successful applicant.

Teacher of DVC and another Technology Specialisation

This position is for a permanent, full-time, teacher of DVC/Technology. Commencing term 1, 2026.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, Technology teacher who can deliver DVC content from Year Nine through to Year Thirteen.  The ability to be able to effectively use and teach CAD (computer aided drawing) skills is essential.  Ideally, they would also be able to teach another Technology specialisation.

There may be an opportunity for responsibility in the DVC area for experienced teachers and appropriate remuneration will be discussed with the right candidate.
