Looking Good in Lacrosse

Cambridge High School students Britney Wolfsbauer, front, Becca Bryan, Ella Ransley, Elise Windsor and Hayden Kilgour have all returned from respective representative lacrosse duties for New Zealand teams.

A group of Cambridge High School students returned recently from representative duties playing for three different New Zealand lacrosse teams.

Head boy Hayden Kilgour went to Bendigo in Victoria, Australia as part of a New Zealand U18 men's team, as did Ella Ransley and Elise Windsor, who was part of a New Zealand U19 women's team.

Britney Wolfsbauer and Becca Bryan also joined the New Zealand women's U23 team and took on an Australian women's open team in an Anzac Day clash in Auckland. The U23 team Wolfsbauer and Bryan were part of won its game 23-5.

The players in Australia also put in strong performances.

It was Kilgour's first trip to Australia playing for New Zealand. The U18 team he was part of played four games - one each against South Australia and Victoria and two against Western Australia. The U18 side lost all four games it played.

The U19 women's team that Windsor and Ransley were part of also played four games. This was their second time representing New Zealand in Australia.

The side lost its first game 10-9 against Western Australia, and lost to South Australia 14-9 in the second game, going on to play a game against Victoria, which the U19s lost 9-7.

The game, which Windsor co-captained, was described by its coach Remington Steele as "the best ever score by an U19 team against an Victorian team".

The U19 team lost its final game 11-8 and Ransley was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match up.

Keen to build on the experience, Kilgour saidLacrosse was both technical and physical.

Wolfsbauer agreed.

"It's pretty intense, " she said.

Windsor described her game as co-captain as a "great experience".

"I did feel the pressure a little bit and I was a little nervous but it came with a sense of pride."
