Term 1 - February 2012
Welcome back to Cambridge High for another year. As a Board we are always interested in the NCEA results and 2011 was another good one for our students – congratulations to them and our staff for their hard work. Welcome also to all our new students and staff – in particular Mrs Webb who has joined us from Hamilton Boys’ High School to be our new Deputy Principal. In addition we also welcome a new member of the Board – Lorraine Cruickshank to replace John Anderson. Term 4 - November 2011
As I write this the end of another school year is rapidly approaching. With the amended Term dates to accommodate the Rugby World Cup we have a shorter than normal final term. Our senior students will be sitting NCEA exams from the 10th of November onwards and I wish them well with their revision and exam preparation. The building of our new staffroom is underway and on track to be finished for use in Term 1 next year. During the next month the Board will be setting its strategic plan for 2012 and the years ahead. As part of this there will be a community consultation evening in the Library on 29th November from 7.30pm and I encourage all those interested in the growth and development of the school to attend. Term 3 - August 2011
Welcome to Term 3. We have received the draft ERO report form their visit in Term 2. It shows that the school has continued to make significant progress in achieving the goals that have been set. This is mainly due to the continuing efforts of our dedicated staff all across the school. However, our parents and wider community also play an important part in ensuring Cambridge High School is doing as well as it is. The Board of Trustees gives our appreciation to all involved in making our school a successful community based school. Enrolments for Year 9s for 2012 are underway and will be the first ones administered under our new Enrolment Scheme. The Board and School management will decide shortly how many if any, places will be available to out of zone applicants. This is a new experience for all of us and we are endeavouring to get it right first time. On Friday 5th August the Technology Block was officially opened by local MP Louise Upston. During her opening speech she commented on the quality of the facilities and how they will cater for current and future generations. Andrew Bateman Term 1 - April 2011
As the end of term nears it is pleasing to see the way our students are fully utilising the new Technology Block. This will be a great asset for the school for many years to come. The next major project is an extension of the staffroom to make it big enough to accommodate all staff at once. This building is the same size as it was when the school was built and as our roll has increased so too has the number of staff. Presently we have 84 teachers and 38 support staff. The date for our Education Review Office visit has been set for June. As a board we are always looking for ways to improve student achievement and the review will provide ways for us to do this as well as highlighting areas that we are already doing well at. Andrew Bateman Term 1 - February 2011
Welcome back to Cambridge High School for 2011. At the start of another school year it is pleasing to see the progress made over the holidays on our various building and grounds projects and by the time you read this we will be using the new Technology block. Our NCEA results are out and it is good to see Cambridge High continuing to perform strongly in this. Credit must go to our senior students for working hard during the year and to staff for their ongoing commitment in encouraging them to do as well as they can. During the course of the year we are due to receive our regular three yearly visit from the Education Review Office. This is a great opportunity for the Board and Staff to receive feedback on how we are doing in assisting our students to achieve to the best of their abilities. Mr Andrew Bateman |
